Visiting Montgomery

Montgomery, Alabama is a great place to visit! Stay and visit Montgomery!

—The city is home to many current and historic civil rights sites, including the Equal Justice Initiative's Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice, the Rosa Parks Museum, the Freedom Rides Museum, the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, and the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail Interpretive Centers in Selma, Lowndes County, and Montgomery.

—The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts aims to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret art of the highest quality for the enrichment, enlightenment, and enjoyment of its public. The artwork on display here is always fabulous. The museum has no admission charge; it’s free! It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Verde Cafe at the museum serves lunch Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m to 2 p.m.

—The city has a minor league baseball team, the Montgomery Biscuits, a double-A team affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays. There are home games on tap in August during the time the exhibit is on display.

—The Montgomery Zoo is home to many animals from around the world. It’s a great place for visitors with children. The zoo is open 7 days a week.

—A variety of coffee and dining options are located throughout the city. Prevail Union coffee shop is right next door to the exhibition space. Vintage Year, Vintage Cafe, and El Rey's are among the sponsors of this exhibit. Check reviews on Trip Advisor, Yelp, and Zagat’s for more information on good eats!

—Old Alabama Town, close to downtown, features authentic 19th and early 20th century homes and buildings that have been saved from demolition, carefully restored, and reopened to the public as a history museum.

—Wind Creek Montgomery offers exciting gaming, deluxe accommodations, a BB King's Blues Club, southern dining, and other luxury amenities.

—Consider visits to the Hank Williams Museum, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival theater, or a ride on the 19th century riverboat, the Harriott II, on the Alabama River. The Harriott II offers dinner, dancing, and live entertainment.
